Overhead Paging
Overhead paging is not for every business, but it is essential for some. If you’re in a small office environment paging through the phones themselves is perfectly adequate. However, if the business has a service, warehouse or factory floor area overhead paging is a communications priority.
Almost all business telephone systems have a way to connect themselves to a separate paging system, whether by dedicated or assigned port. It’s a simple matter of taking an audio signal, on a pair of wires, to the input of the paging system amplifier, and that’s as technical as I intend to get. Once the connection between systems is in place dialing a simple code (or pressing a programmed button) will start the paging process.
There are many considerations to designing a paging system, not the least of which is the square footage of the area you are trying to cover with understandable audio. If you’re only trying to cover large office hallways the task is simpler, but still not something you should consider doing without professional help. It comes down to how much area to cover with how many speakers or horns and how much amplifier wattage it takes to push all of those speakers.
We at Sirius Voice Networking have a great deal of experience with overhead paging in both small and large scale operations. From small warehouse facilities to multi story hospitals, we’ve seen it all. If you need service or a full blown design for new construction, we can take care of your overhead paging needs.
